9.16.24 / 9.17.24 - september supermoon
#last img is a composite btw. wanted moon clarity AND noise blowout; had to get clever to have both#‘she’s was so big and bright last night!’ - my mom#did you know the moon completes its orbit around earth in 27.3 days? it also completes a spin along it’s axis every 27.3 days#so we always see the same side of moon locally; but it depends on where you’re at on earth#the lunar cycle completes every 29.5 days - as opposed to the 27.3 it takes to complete its own orbit;#that’s a difference of 2.2 days!#something something pythagorean comma#like the leap year! a sidereal year is 365.25 days; every four cycles we gain a ‘semitone’ - an extra day#in musical scale: if you complete a circle of fifths using just intervals of perfect fifths; you’ll gain a quarter of a semitone#the interval leading from an old octave into a new one. like a step forward; a comma which denotes transition#so not a ‘circle’ but a spiral/fractal#in western music we flatten each fifth by a 12th of a pythagorean comma to give us our seven ‘perfect octaves’#also called ‘equal temperament’#this flattens each fifth by ~2 cents to eliminate the perceived discordance cause by the slight bump in tone#I’m not saying there’s a metaphysical connection between the chromatic scale and lunar activity#but#it’s neat when you notice that our moon (and other celestial neighbors) move with a sense of musicality#even if that is a modal sense of musicality and not a tonal sense#my art#aesthetic#art#artwork#webcore#internetcore#glitchcore#abstract#artists on tumblr#photography#lunar#moon

While your comment on non-US artists’ prices are valid it also shows your US-centrism………………. Not all people can pay in USD. In my country it’s somewhat similar that 20 is worth a 100, so this thinking is cutting out a majority of the customers who don’t earn in USD. Why are you Americans so stupid hahahah
I had a feeling someone would come at me with this when I made that post, but if you are going to be advertising your prices in USD and in english on social media sites that are by default already very western-centric communities (twitter, reddit, tumblr), you are going to and most certainly intend to attract largely American and western european customers. If that is the currency you are using to advertise yourself in a freelance position where you have the opportunity to set your own labor value, then you are literally selling yourself short. Would you rather do a single drawing for 100 USD, or burn yourself out over five drawings for 20USD? The monetary outcome is the same, but in the first, your time is more respected.
Art is a luxury and a skill, not a basic life necessity like food that must be openly available to all who need it. You don't need a "majority" of customers paying you minimum wage if you have a small handful of customers paying you much greater sums.
The onus is not just on the artist to change this, though. US customers also need to stop taking advantage of international artists and pay them the same they would pay a local artist, and if they see someone setting prices like that, there had better be a meaty tip attached.

As an act of what is perhaps futile masochism, I counted how far my collection is & then got the numbers for my archival wishlist. I just wanted to see how far along I am in achieving my own unreasonable goals. These are the results.
Current archive count: 263 books
Current to-buy list count: 900+ books
Playing loose and fast with math that means I'm, what--20-22% of the way there? With that in mind, if there are any sugar mommies out there who have a niche interest in insane & unreasonable nerds, I would like to point out that I am available and also capable of mostly behaving. <3

I’ve been thinking about like DIY alt fashion stuff recently and one piece of advice I’d give that nobody really told me is that a lot of the time learning how to recycle / repurpose basics is such a worthwhile investment for developing your own unique style over having like, really cool unique statement pieces.
Like what I’m talking about is, there’s a LOT of complaints you can make about stores like Killstar, Dolls Kill, BlackCraft, etc, but also, just aesthetically speaking, you look at some of their pieces and they’re like… statement pieces. They’re already premade outfits on their own, they already have all the work done to be distressed and covered in rips or zippers or studs or spikes or big prints or whatever else and sometimes they do look cool, but like, aside from the more judgmental opinion that I think over-reliance on those kinds of things just make you look less authentic lol, more importantly when talking in-depth about the style itself, I think they’ll make the wearer become a 1 trick pony very quickly. Like what I mean is, if every time you’re going out to the club or a show or something you’re in these super done-up premade garments, it’s very impersonal after awhile. Like you look “cool” on a surface level but at best it just tells others around you that you Dress Goth in like, the most surface level way imaginable.
Comparatively, if you can learn to recycle and repurpose simple basics, there’s so much more room to actually experiment with YOUR OWN style… You’re not gonna have crazy stand-out individual pieces like you’d get from Tripp NYC or Hot Topic, but you have so much more customization capability. You’re not wearing pieces that serve a single purpose and steal the spotlight and instead you gotta learn how to come up with fully formed outfits on your own. This will also inevitably save you money—I was asked recently how I can look cool on a budget and genuinely recycling the same clothes for different looks is such a massive expense saver, I can buy a $10 shirt and use it for like, a dozen different unique looks, making the shirt an investment of less than 1 dollar per wear lol—but again it also just makes you stand out more as being capable of coming up with your OWN look. Like it makes the expression more authentic and personal. I think, especially in alternative scenes and social spaces in general, style is a massive conversation piece and starter because it is meant to send a signal of what you’re about to other people. This is the role stuff like band shirts play in alt music subcultures too obviously, it tells people around you what bands you’re about and functions as a conversation starter for interested parties who share your music taste. But style more broadly can do that too, and it largely comes down to being able to like, come up with your own outfits rather than ride the coattails of premade alternative fashion pieces. And like obviously I’m not saying to just wear plain basics all the time LMAO, but more that I think there’s a very material benefit to moving away from looking at stuff that looks cool on a mannequin and more into developing your own style and aesthetic and then seeking out pieces that will compliment that.

been looking at all the IPPY awards and feedback and posts today and many of the high scoring images are lovely and inspiring but many of them are skillfully shot and edited while also being completely devoid of JOY and WHIMSY and it’s driving me insane so. here are some joyful and whimsical dogs at the mall

not to bring tiktok drama on tumblr but like every time a ‘scandal’ comes out with one of these ‘production companies’ that make fan films i always hope we’re finally gonna discuss how they professionalize something that should be an hobbyist endeavor… and yet every single time i’m disappointed.
#like I know we’ve been talking about it here on tumblr and i remember seeing like one or two videos on tt about it#but other than that creators really don’t seem to be engaging critically with the impact that the very nature of what they’re doing has#and look i truly do love the art that some of the people involved in the project make#like arone is truly one of the most talented cosplayers i know#ethan is an amazing actor and I’ve followed him since before he was even in the marauders#dorian is a great writer and idk the others as well but I’m sure they are all great artists#((naming the just cause i feel like being vague would be worse in this case))#and i do believe they engaged with the project with the best of intentions#without knowing or trying to afford grace on past controversy#and it truly is a horrible predicament to have your work be tainted like that for something you had no control over#but like i do think we should be questioning the very idea of how this fanfilms have been made is inherently a problem#like fanfilms are essentially fanfiction on camera#so as long as a few cosplayers want to get together with their iphones write a script and shoot at the local park I don’t have a problem#but if you are putting in place a product that somehow requires you to fundraise consistently for two years then I have a problem with it#ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE SELLING THE SCRIPT TO DO SO#cause even if that script hadn’t been ai generated#that script is fanfiction and you do. not. sell. fanfiction.#seriously like… do we need to go over our abc again?#like fanart and cosplayers are a bit different in the sense that people sell fanart/do commissions and they can be professional cosplayers#but for any other fanmade project that requires you to put pen to paper (or keyboard to chatgpt ig)#you need to be engaging with several ethical questions regarding any exchange of money#and personally i don’t think that there’s been engagement with those ethical reflections#and this isn’t about any of the people involved and not even about mischief productions specifically#it’s about a wider issue in how we have been collectively normalizing a way of doing things that should not be normal#and like yes star using ai and being overall not good is bad but like can we talk about EVERYTHING ELSE please

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! You got the mural job, that's amazing news =D
THANK YOU!!! i've haven't quite done anythin like this before BUT i have enough experience from other projects to where it's not a super super daunting thing. like yeah it's Big and that'll have it's challenges but i'm excited !! :>
i don't know if i can show my proposal sketch off else i'd put it here but i will certainly show the finished mural off here once it's done >:3
#asks#clubsheartsspades#it also helps that i will be paid. several thousand dollars for this job. now part of that is to cover supplies bc it's. FUcking Big but#definitely the biggest job i have had so far size and paycheck wise dhglkdhfgl#i wouldn't call it weird exactly but i'm at an interesting place in my career as an artist bc i feel as if i should have found a specialty#by now. and by no means is it a bad thing that i haven't bc i love working on a huge variety of projects and i learn a lot from all of them#but for me it's like#i'm a freelance illustrator. i'm an art teacher. i do public art. i run an online shop. i do comics in my free time. every now and again i#exhibit in physical galleries#i do digital art but i'm also a traditional artist#'mintt why are you like this' i'm insane and i don't realize it until i write out everything i do like. oh. huh.#i don't mind doing any and all of that it's fun and there is an inherent cohesion to my work regardless bc i made it#but a lot of the artists i follow. especially the handful of professional artists i know irl do like. one or two of those things bc that's#their specialty. and idk if i have that career specialty yet. i Certainly have my specialties irt subjects#i think there's something to be said though about me seeking out more local opportunities than anything bc i don't feel like i quite have#the portfolio yet to be really noticed when applying for Big Things out of state and whatnot#at least with my more traditional work digital stuff is different#i am thoroughly rambling now sdhgklhflg

Hi! I killed Wemmbu and made an emo Egg because he saw it happen!! >_<
Individuals + explanation under cut
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Translation of my handwriting in IDs ^_^)
Basically, I was listening to Wemmbu's 5th Unstableverse episode (The Minecraft Empire War) in my classes and got to the part where Zam has his (Wemmbu's) ass trapped in webs like the little fucking bug he is. At this, I thought "hey! What if Zam killed him! What if Egg didn't get there fast enough! Hehe! Haha!" And this kind of... happened I guess.

regarding the big Finale end-of-life announcement:
an offer without any expectation: i've been using the (free, open source) program LilyPond for all my sheet music engraving for years. i think it is powerful, flexible, and beautiful, but i also know that it has a steep learning curve and runs differently from many other programs. if you're curious about it, i'm always happy to talk about how it works, show you my process, and field any questions that come up for you if you decide to try it out. this is a standing offer; feel free to drop me a line about this at any time if you decide it's something that might be right for you!

Patreon question
I'm focusing hard on budgeting, and one of the things I want to do more of in the coming year is support independent creators/small groups on Patreon and Substack, even if I can only do a little bit at a time. I have a few creators I already support on Patreon, and two on Substack, but I'd love to support more.
I know you've got creators that you love to support on these platforms! Tell me who you support and why you started supporting them if you have creators that are especially unique or near and dear to you. Anything and everything, across the board, I love supporting small business and I love finding new people and niches I never heard about before. There're no wrong answers here!

sometimes I question the way spotify organizes things into genres. their genre playlists often have things that don't fit at all and this year my wrapped said I only listened to like 19 genres and there's just no way that's true. I have about 10 different genre playlists just that I've made and listened to this year alone not counting all of the stuff I've listened to that I don't have a genre specific playlist for

Gentlemen don't talk about money so i guess it's polite to hide this under the cut
of course it's not the artists fault, still it feels so unfair that prints in online shops are always priced according to Western standards, leaving people from poorer countries forever unable to afford them
one of the main reasons why i learned how to draw was the awareness that coming from working class in a developing country i will never be able to afford a commission so i will have to draw everything myself
